At Simpson Strong-Tie, giving back to the communities we serve is a crucial part of our company culture. We’re all connected in some way and part of a greater community. It’s essential to make what impact you can — you may not have the financial means that others might have, but whatever you can do really matters. Associate Inside Sales Representative Missy Joseph is a shining example of our company value #8, “Give Back,” which encourages employees to volunteer and give back to their community in whatever ways they can.
Missy Joseph and her husband, along with a team of volunteers, founded Cap City Athletic Association in 2013 as a 501c3 youth athletic association based on the West Side of Columbus, offering football and cheerleading programs emphasizing the importance of academic achievement, sportsmanship, teamwork, good character, and community and parental involvement.
Since its founding, more than 7,000 area youth have benefited from the association, and this year, more than 850 kids will be enrolled in programs, including baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, and soccer. Last year, the Cap City Athletic Association foundation helped over 750 children receive a Christmas present and provided meals for 40 families. Joseph credits Simpson Strong-Tie’s culture, flexibility, and work/life balance as critical factors enabling her to continue her commitment to the growth and success of Cap City Athletics.
Joseph joined Simpson Strong-Tie in 2018 as an associate inside sales representative and explained how nervous she was to start a new career at 40. However, Missy received a warm welcome when starting her new role. Joseph said, “When you walk in, and you see and feel the culture at Simpson Strong-Tie, it’s very warm, it’s very inviting. It’s not like anything you’ve ever felt at other workplaces.”
In 2021, Joseph’s commitment earned her the company’s annual Barc Simpson Community Hero Award. “Missy’s unwavering commitment to family, community and, of course, her team at Simpson Strong-Tie is an embodiment of our founding corporate value that everyone matters,” says Simpson Strong-Tie Columbus Branch Manager Bryan Rychlik. “Her dedication and the achievements of the Cap City Athletic Association in supporting the positive growth of thousands of area kids are an incredible investment in the future of Columbus, and we’re proud to nominate Missy for this prestigious national service award.”
No matter where you are or want to be, we have a place for you at Simpson Strong-Tie. Our mission and people-focused values have made Simpson Strong-Tie a unique place to work — a place where you can connect, create and build your career, even if that means pivoting into a new role as Missy Joseph did.
Thank you, Missy, for sharing your inspiring story with us.
