I recently added a paver patio next to our barn, creating extra space for both grilling and storage. The DIY patio construction turned out great. However, the AC unit situated directly behind it was a bit of an eyesore. To make the landscape more cohesive, I decided to construct a small privacy fence using composite decking to conceal the AC unit from sight.

I used Simpson Strong-Tie® E-Z Spike™ fence post spikes to anchor this privacy fence, because I didn’t want to disturb the newly laid patio right next to the AC unit. I hammered the E–Z spikes into the ground, making sure they were securely in place. They gave me a sturdy foundation without the hassle of traditional digging.

Once those E–Z Spikes were in position, I slipped 4×4 posts into the brackets of the spikes, and the skeleton of my privacy fence was taking shape. I used composite boards which I attached to the posts horizontally to hide the AC from view.

This project was straightforward and easy. If you’ve got an eyesore like an AC unit ruining your patio’s aesthetic, this quick and simple solution might be perfect for you, too!
