New ECB Elevated Column Base Ready for Multifamily Residential Construction

New ECB Elevated Column Base Ready for Multifamily Residential Construction

As part of an expanding portfolio of multifamily residential solutions, we’re excited to introduce the Simpson Strong-Tie® ECB elevated column base. The ECB makes it simple to add a waterproofing layer when installing solid sawn posts or hollow columns. It’s perfect for construction of stacked balconies in multifamily housing, or whenever a post is being used to support an awning or roof.

Taller 2″ standoff makes room for waterproofing plus 1″ clearance

Designed with a 2″ standoff, the ECB’s extra height allows the post or column to be elevated far enough above the wood framing so that a moisture barrier can be easily installed. With the added standoff height, the post base still maintains the code-required 1″ standoff above the final flooring to prevent post decay.

Build with hollow columns or solid sawn posts — throughout the US.

The versatile ECB accommodates both 6×6 and 8×8 hollow columns or solid sawn posts, and installs quickly into either wood or concrete.

An earlier model of this product, the ECBQ, was originally created as a solution for installing hollow columns on balconies in the southeast US. It’s been a popular column base there for more than a decade. We recently tested the new ECB model with solid sawn posts, and are now expanding its availability nationwide.

“Based on the success we’ve had with this product in the southeast, we thought it was time to share this highly versatile multifamily solution with builders throughout the country,” said Bryan Wert, Director of Connectors and Lateral Systems. “Waterproofing balconies is critical in multifamily structures, and this post base makes it easy to get the job done right.
